I wonder how hard it would be to rekey the ignition cylinder? If that PY1555 is actually a match and I could do that then I'd have a new key and a spare. Hmmm...
Well, I lucked out today at one of the local yards. A legit 1977 E-250 **** wagon had what I needed to do the conversion. I was able to get 4 of 5 pins to match up to my ignition and I'm now in the 1 key club.
Looking at this on my laptop and not on my phone I was thinking the same thing and re-looked at the pictures before I got to your post - good question.
As for too many keys. I saw some place if you have more than 1 Ford key you cut 1 side of the key for 1 car/truck and cut the other side for the other car/truck.
Now you have 1 lees key and all you have to do is remember if it does not turn is to flip the key over to use the other side.
or you could get rid of a few things

Or you could just rekey the multi-use the same key...
One key to unlock them all, one key to start them, one key to drive them all and in the front yard park them...

I just now read every word and looked at every picture; Big Thanks to those who put this together; it should be in the How Tos.
The links to the original article at the Mustang site are dead ends, as is the main home page for that site.
Is this information available elsewise or lost forever ?
I have a 1972 Hi-Boy that I never did have any door key for; I have an ignition key, but no door key.
I hadn't really thought about it before; but, after reading through this article, I grabbed a light and went out there to investigate = although it will not turn them, the square-headed "right-sided" ignition key that I have will insert right in the door locks
After reading this article, I need to procure myself some 7/64 brass rod and set about re-keying those doors to match the key that I do have.
What would be ideal for me, and I am sure that it should be possible; is, I have several of all three here on the grounds; well, actually all four if you count the Cherokee; I would like to have every door and ignition keyed the same, Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, and Cherokee.
The newest of the bunch is 1991; the oldest being the 1972 F250 Hi-Boy.
I would even like to go further and have every toolbox, doghouse, and Master Lock keyed the same as well.
Looking at the applications of the other set that was listed from summit I tried searching around to see if I could find it on Amazon and ended up coming across this buy a different manufacturer. I'm going to order this sent and see how it works. Not bad for $32

2 years later - how did it work out?
Which direction are the keys?
I just got a set of DL3s and it is a square key but keyed left. (I had no read about the design change mentioned above.)
