Just a quick question, is the outside door lock ('56) keyed the same as the ingition? I only have one key that starts the truck, fits in the passanger door lock but won't unlock it.
I guess I'll just get everything re-keyed when I put in a driver side lock. Till then I'll just keep it unlocked and the vent windows unlocked as well.
The cylinder in the ignition pops out and you can put the other one that matches the door in, so you don't need a new ignition switch; MF sells them I think DC may have them also.
One of the two has an extra slot running the length. I believe the door lock key has the grooves on both sides and the ignition key is slotted on only one side (at least mine are like that).
So, you may be able to use the double slotted key for both but not the single slotted key. Might be worth a try.
Yeah I only have the one key, so I'll have to just change everything when I put in a drivers side lock. The key I have fits into the lock, but won't unlock it. I can't see anything wrong with the mechinism and it works by hand from inside just fine, I just don't have the key for it

You can take it to a locksmith and they can re-pin it to fit your key - probably cost you about $20. As a matter of fact, if you have a glove box lock they can repin that too, so you only have one key - ignition, door locks and glove box. I did that.
I haven't found a locking gas cap yet that will take the Ford Door/ignition Keys.
they also can cut you a key with the numbers on the side of the lock, if you don't mind having 2 keys. also you need to find a good "old" locksmith as they're a dieing breed. no one around here wanted to touch my ignition lock on my '47 so i bought a locksmith book, but then i found an old locksmith a couple of towns over.
