I have a 66 F100 that has an engine I was told is not the original. I would like to list the truck for sale but want to make sure the ad is correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, here are some pictures.
It's an FE motor painted the Ford blue that started in the '66 model year.
Beyond that, we know it's a 2bbl, non-oem air cleaner, and a little crusty.
352, 360, 390, all were equipped with 2bbl carbs, and they pretty much look the same externally. Can you see any casting codes on the manifold or cylinder heads (between the middle cylinders).
A D2TE...code would tell us it is a much later ('72 or later) motor for example.
Thanks guys, I will try to look at it tonight or this weekend. Where would the casting numbers be? Could someone show a picture please? I'm surprised there is not a serial number on it.
The Fordification forum use to have a tech article listing the Casting #'s and the best guess year with the CID, not sure if still on their web-site? However; as mentioned, the casting #'s should narrow the approximate year the block was manufactured but not necessarily the CID, considering the engine is possibly 50 yrs. old and who knows whether PO had the engine rebuilt and increased the CID???
In trying to determine, perhaps a wooden dowel, or something similar, could be used by inserting in the spark plug opening, marking at the highest, then the lowest point and measure the difference??
If you click on this link and scroll down just past the stainless steel hub caps you can see some of the numbers that can help ID an FE engine. Typically in about the same locations, just the numbers vary as you can imagine.
