1966, I think.....

New to this side of the forum, but not new to FTE

Picked up this 66 F100 a couple weeks ago. It was advertised as a 1965, but the title said 1966. I've got some verifying to do....... It supposedly has a 302/C4 combo, but I'm going to double check those as well. Seems to run well, but the front end is definitely loose at about 50 or so.

The plan:
Fix a few cosmetics, fix turn signals, replace some worn front end parts, swap over the Mustang wheels, and just start driving it.

Not looking to do a resto on it. I just want to occasionally drive a cool a$$ old truck.

Eventually I'd like to start on some of the necessary body work, swap in a decent bench seat, relocate the gas tank, swap in a 5 spd (still has original clutch pedal), maybe drop the stance some (already has shackles in rear), deeper rear gear, aluminum heads, intake, and 4bbl (if engine checks out)

I've been doing a lot of research on gas tank relocation, lowering the front end, 5 spd swaps, etc....... Thanks to all of you who have contributed to that info! Love these forums! Lots of great people and info available here for sure!

I enjoy all criticism, good or bad...... so bring it on! let me know if you have any comments, suggestions, or whatever

Nice start for a project for sure! 302, power steering, body looks fairly solid... I like the stock height, but it's your truck. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Haven't done much except for swapping over to the '08 Mustang Wheels. It is registered now with some 1966 vintage VA tags I found on Craigslist. I'm hoping to get a few home projects done in the next couple of months, then I can tear into the truck some. I'm just driving it some for now.

The Mustang wheels have definitely made me want to lower the truck some. The tires are stock Mustang rubber for reference (235/50/18)

I've been doing a lot of reading here on these front suspensions. I've found a local shop that has experience in bending beams. I believe this is the route I'm going to lower the front, with some Crown lowering coils. I'm hoping for no more than a 2" drop up front. I will be reworking the rear leaf spring packs to match, once the front done.

Based on what I can tell from the pics that 2" drop won't come close to removing the gap between tire and fender....Personally I'd do the 3" drop beams and if that shop can shorten coil 1" w/o having camber issues do that too....I think it'll look great w/ those wheel slightly tucked in fender well....
Great driver project

Welcome to FTE! For info purposes, if decide to swap bench seats, the selection is unlimited from 1972 thru 1990's, would require swapping seat tracks, and since the later model bench seats are slightly wider 1 of the arm rest would have to be removed, it's a no brainer, let the passenger hand their arm out the window. I tend to prefer the back section set level with the bottom of the rear window so I removed the headrest, just a matter of personal preference; keeping in mind, after 72 one should be able to mix and match bench seats with the backs. In addition, got tired of closing the door on the seat belt so did away with the belts in the 65 and went with retractable belt on the door sill side.

Another option may want to consider; 3 point seats belts??

Again, welcome, looking forward to your input!
