Im trying to decide if I should buy a 2016 or 2017 F250. I really like the 2017 6.2 F250. Just not sure about the Torqshift-G transmission. Does anyone have any info on it? Will it be a select shift type? Thanks for the input.
It is basically going to be a "beefed up" version of the 6r80(F150). I think it will improve the 6.2. I already want to order a new one, I love the look, but it will have 4.30 gears this time.
The 6.2 doesn't need a 1400 lb-ft transmission behind it, it's rated to what 405lb-ft? The 6.7 makes more than double that at 860lb-ft. It makes sense to have two transmissions really, the two motors make power in different bands, different hardware does more than tuning could.
I'd buy the 2016. Ford always ends up with a high amount of TSBs when they do a redesign, change powertrain options etc. usually buy the time they work all the bugs out of the current design, they change it.
Thanks for the replies. If the tranny is a beefed up version of the 6r80 it might be a good one. Most of the bugs have been worked out of that transmission and when new although the computer may need a few updates.
The first gear on the 6R140 is already pretty steep, steeper than any other auto put in a SD. If they go steeper yet for first I figure they will probably throw shallower highway gears in the rear. All to try and attempt to increase mpg by a meager amount that will go unnoticed by most. But they will notice the difference in get up and go and when towing.
The 6.2l does well with 4.30 gears, axing them as an option would be huge mistake.
The 6r140 has a 3.97 1st 2.32, 1.52, 1.15, .86 and .67 6th
The 6r80 has a 4.17 1st 2.34, 1.52, 1.14, .86 and a .69 6th
With my 3.73 I don't have a problem getting 8-10k going it is keeping up the speed on any type of incline. I hate having to drop into 2nd to keep hwy speed. I think if anything the 6.2 needs a tranny with a lower 3rd gear. I can almost hold my 8k toyhauler where I want it in 3rd(3224 rpm at 55mph) but it is not quite enough gear. In 2nd I'm at 4921rpm. This is where I know the 4.30 would suit my towing needs much better. With 4.30's at 55mph I would be turning a nice 3716rpms.
Ford better keep the 4.30's as an option, and more dealers should have them in inventory. If anyone wants to tow happily with a 6.2, it needs 4.30's.
I doubt the new 6r100 is changing any ratios much outside of what the current 2 tranny's offer.
My 6r140 barely warms up on my gauge during my entire 12 mile commute, and I notice my mpg's suffer when the tranny is cold. It reminds me of a diesel motor. I am looking forward to the new 6.2 specific tranny.
This is interesting. I'm not sure if this Ford guy just misspoke, but he said we'll be able to get the Torqshift, OR the torqushift-G with the 6.2 ... Skip to 2:45 in the vid.
