First of all hi guys and gals , i own a 5.0 f150 2014 atm and im trying to jump into an excursion , eventually the excursion will be mine and my girl will trade the f150 for something else. Im having a hard time deciding which excursion to get , price wise im trying to stay under 15k , i recon around 300 horses its ok more or less which is what i think my f150 has. Im really having a hard time deciding which excursion to get v8-v10 gasser, 7.3,6.0? I kind of like the 05 models but i wont be a deal breaker , eventually the truck will be lifted mostly for looks, and it wont even tow more than my harley and my Gsxr, but im hitting an age where im trying to get rid of vehicle payments and eventually grow old with this truck lol.
I dont mind the up front price difference for a diesel but i never own a diesel before and the maintenance fees got me a little scared
Reading all the above, I would recommend jumping towards the V10. Many here have had great luck with the V10 platform. You can find one in good shape at a decent price. For a diesel, you will end up spending a LOT more.
Did you want 4 wheel drive? That to will be a factor on availability and price.
Also, where are you at? We can always start helping you track down the Ex of your dreams...
Thanks for the replies , i have to admit i do have a diesel fetiche lol but i heard the cool factor does wear out quickly, truck must be 4x4 and the more i read the closer it gets between the v10 and the 7.3 i just have never had a diesel but idk why they amaze me , now im pretty handy w gasser engines , turbos and i have even done a little tuning before , but the ex will be a daily and i do have 3 kids and a trip from Nj to FL in july (i live in Nj as of now )
Trust me, the cool factor of the deezil doesn't get old, especially when the turbo is spooled up, and the little ricer kid in the next lane can't believe you just left him in the dust!
Go for it if you can- the 7.3s at 18-20 mpg are great (but spendy and tough to find).
You really could get by with a V10 and less maintainance, but the gas station dude will be your new best friend.
6.0s have great power, but read up on them; otherwise the diesel shop dude will be your new best friend.
You came to the best forum available, lots of good folks on here to help you decide!

Walt, do those first two statements happen at the same time?
Personally I would do what I did and scour the net for a super clean 6.8 and have it shipped to you. There isn't a damn thing up there in NJ worth buying and for the money the 6.8 is a great rig. I love mine and although I wish I had gone with a diesel it's for a different reason than you are thinking. A gas motor is the best choice for you. I'm currently selling mine, but don't expect to sell it nor do I really care that much since the 6.8 is such a great motor. I'm headed up to PENN this weekend to hang out with another member and install shocks on his rig and another ton of parts on mine... Thats right, even though I'm trying to sell mine I still put money into it, and it's because I don't care if I never sell it. It's a great rig and I'm happy with it I'll NEVER get my money back out of it but I enjoy wrenching and I enjoy the truck more than the idea of selling it so in the end I end up just making the truck better and better (unless you ask my wife).

Wow, Jon, ya might want to try de-caf for a couple days...

I don't typically jump in to your drama, but here goes anyway....Congrats Apoc...that's far & away the dumbest thing (sans Brent) I've read on this forum.
A bit ironic, I would add. Your "improvements" to your Ex has done nothing to increase its value. You might want to follow your own advice and scrap that front bumper. That alone would scare me away...Good luck finding buyers...you are going to need it.

Either that or another change in prescriptions. Usually his internet aggression kicks in after 10pm.

I don't know what aggression you're talking about, I was incredibly happy about what I posted. I know for a fact my improvements didn't add value to my truck and I'm happy with that. Ant there is NOTHING worth buying in NJ, most of the stuff up there is rusted or beat all to hell.

Your selling now?
OP- If you go V10 look for 4.30 gears in the rear end and stick with 2003+ models. If you look for a 6.0 keep an extra few thousand bucks aside for when it may need engine upgrades. Nothing to be scared about, just prepared.
