Just curious, why 2003+ models? What am I missing with my '01?

The 2003+ mid year V10 engines received more threads in the head for spark plugs. Ensuring they are Torqued properly is the best thing. 20-25 ft lbs is recommended.

2002+ received standardized wiring making the 08+ mirrors not require adapters.

2000+ received the PI heads, Performance Increased, good for 30hp factory.

I have a 7.3 and a v10. Both are awesome set ups with different usage. I think for you I would by a v10. I just took mine to Florida from Michigan last weekend and we got 13.7 to 14.3 for fuel mileage. Not spectacular but not bad for what it is.

The Fordtechmakuloko video I posted along with several V10 members. 2000+ I believe all V10's received PI heads. Checking the casting numbers will confirm.

From the sounds of it a clean as low mile as you can find V10 within your price range would be it, in my opinion of course.

This is not the first time I have seen this higher spec value posted. Did Ford change the torque values for spark plugs and raise them?

Don't worry about it. I have (3) 2000's 100K,175K, & 199K...Have never spit a plug. Can it happen, YEP But you could throw a rod in a 7.3 as well. The fix is not to bad & the cure is even easier (torque the plugs correctly). Glad 14MPG does not scare you BECAUSE you should EXpect 10MPG

Q: Have the threads in the newer engines been upgraded?
A: Yes. most all 1997 to 2003 4.6L, 5.4L, 6.8L engines used the 4-5 thread design cylinder head. In late 2003 the SOHC 2 valve type engines were upgraded to a 8-10 thread spark plug design. The newer 3 valve type engines use a whole new type of sleeved spark plug.

One cannot make that claim because there was no specific date during the '03 MY run that Ford introduced the newer heads. So for the 5.4L Excursion it could have been very early in the MY run, and for the 5.4L F150 it could have been later. For the F150 Lightning it could have been in the middle of the '03 MY run and for the 4.6L Mustang it could have been with the very first car off the line. The V10 F-Series trucks might have been before or after the V10 Excursions, or none of the above. Heck, even some '02 modular engine users have reported they have the updated heads.

Until Ford used up all of the older heads, the newer, revised heads weren't introduced for each vehicle line and modular engine. It all depended on how many of the older heads Ford had left to use on the line, before the newer versions replaced them.

Thanks for that!

If it works for them, and a person trusts their claim.....

I know what works for me and I've been golden and haven't had a problem since my plug launch.

sorry for my ignorance im really trying for the diesel , the more i read about the more i like it lol
