So I've got some pretty big plans for ole blue this summer; God willing, but I was out for a cruise the other day and the engine cut off. Without thinking I hit the starter button and the starter engaged, but no fire. Perplexed, I glanced down and everything was off. So I grabbed the key and immediately power came back. The engine fired right up, and just as quickly died. No power. Repeat this a few times and I'm starting to sweat as traffic gives me confused looks at the intersection.
Short end; ignition switch is wearing out. If the key is turned "just" right we're good to go. Bumped the wrong way and it cuts out.
Anybody know of a source for a quality Acc/Off/On ignition switch? I've cycled through a few headlight switches over the last 18yrs too (ugh...I wasn't that old when I got the truck!) and have only been let down.
I'm not worried about OEM appearance or winning any concourse shows, just something quality.
I have a stock switch with key cylinder (but no key), it appears to be a 48-50 style. No bezel. You could swap out lock cylinders. If you want it, it's yours for postage. Can you post a picture of yours at the dash end?
I probably should have mentioned that I'm running 12v as well...don't think that would make a difference on the ignition switch, but not sure off the top of my head.
I'll get a pic of it soon.
My current ignition switch came from Napa if I remember right, but there are no Napa's in my area now.
My current headlight switch came from O'Riely's and it doesn't always make contact at the headlight end or on the dash dimmer. You pull it out and you have to jiggle it to get the headlights to come on (sometimes)...though I've never had them shut off once they came on it makes me a little nervous. Same story with the dash lights, though I have had them go out after going over a rough patch of road and you can't tell how fast you're going or voltage, etc. It's irritating.
