The converter needs to be matched to the engine and the rearend gearing. A stall converter is usually needed on a engine that is a little bit on the radical side, with higher numerical gearing in the rearend. A stall converter on a completely stock setup will be sluggish on take off and generate a lot of heat in the trans since at cruising speed you are not above the stall rpm.

The truck already has a performer intake, Edelbrock carb, and the owner told me it had a cam in it but that's not for sure. He claimed the motor came out of a mustang but it isn't a roller motor since it has the older flat tappet firing order.

The converter would be more for the future as I have somewhat big plans for it. A 66mm turbo and a blow through carb being the main ones. And the aod locks up 60% in 3rd and 100% in od so it won't slip while cruising. My daily driver has a 3500 converter and it never had a problem with a lock up converter in the e4od.

Are you sure your AOD will stand up to your future plans? They need to be modified to stand up to some power. I am not sure, but I think I am right in saying the weak spot that is hard to get around is the input shaft? Isn't it hollow for the oil to go up to the lock-up clutches and it likes to twist in two with big power applied?

No I'm not sure it will hold up. You can put a 1 pc shaft in the trans but you lose the lock up feature. It's going to be my girlfriends truck and she doesn't drive stuff as hard as I do so it may hold up awhile. If it snowballs like all of my other trucks then it will end up being a Windsor with a c6 and trans brake.

I went to the junk yard today to find a 1 piece back window to replace the junk slider and picked up a passenger mirror and a drivers taillight. Glad to say the mirror bolts right onto the 2 upper holes left from the swing out style.

I also dropped off the aod for a rebuild. Plans are to order an FTI 2400 stall and the trans will be getting a mild shift kit.

Going to pick up a nice condition dash pad tomorrow so that will be a start to the much needed interior restore.

Lmao we will soon find out. It definitely won't break at the current power level.

I got some more work done on the truck. I got my aod back from the shop. He changed a drum and added more direct clutches as well as a mild shift kit. I installed it with an FTI 2400 stall converter. I haven't driven it yet as I'm having an issue using the Lokar TV cable kit with the factory column shifter linkage but I'll figure it out. I'm replacing the Edelbrock carb with a rebuild Holley as well.

Also worked on the interior resto. I installed a new headliner out of a 92 truck with the matching sun visors. I had to drill holes for the inside visor clips that the 80-86 trucks don't have. Also my girlfriend dyed the badly faded but otherwise nice seat with the colorbond paint that LMC sells. More pics coming.

Ok I made some more progess this week. I took out the sliding back window that was busted and installed a 1 piece. I found out the windshield was leaking so I had a guy replace it. I finally got the Holley squared away and figured out how to hook up the stock aod tv linkage with the sonnax correction arm.

I also installed belltech 2" drop springs as the 93-95 lightning coils weren't low enough. Installed a 92-96 style step bumper in place of the bent chrome bumper. I'm really hoping to score brackets for a smooth bumper eventually. Installed new weather stripping on the window tracks and the outside pieces as well. Just about ready to throw the interior back together and drive it. Here is a few pics.

Looks great! You got me looking for one like that now. I hope you leave the paint alone too. I love that used/worn look.

Thanks man. Yeah I have no plans to paint it. I think the patina looks good even though the truck isn't really old enough for the look. The only issue I have is the black came off while trying to remove the glue from the rubber molding it had when I bought it. What a nightmare that was to remove lol.
