1968 ranger windshield

need some advice from the experienced, wanting to pull out my 1968 ranger windshield, gasket is bad and who ever installed it last time probably used some sort of sealer because its all over the windshield around the gasket, also the gasket is in two pieces probably because it is tricky to install.
my question...
....what procedure do i use to remove? cut gasket? any special tools i would need?
....can an inexperience glass man like me install the new windshield with a little help from the wife and do it myself? i have watched videos on line and am familiar with the rope trick

i know if your not careful the glass can break on installation
who has done this successfully and like the finished product?

thanks dave

I just took one out of a truck with a bad gasket. I used a utility knife and it easily cut through the gasket. Just cut away the front of the gasket and any sealant and the windshield should push out from the inside easily. It it's not easy to push out just remove more of the gasket.

I haven't tried to put on in yet, doesn't look to hard.

The one I took out was broken so it was easy to go for it. Good luck!

done many , cut the old seal to get it out .
use a rope 1/4 nylon is what i prefer , I also use a bucket of water with dish washing liquid added , this acts as a lubricant .
most installs you put the bottom in the channel then pull the sides and top in with the rope I found with our trucks its easier to put the top in the channel then pull sides and bottom in .

one other question, i have chrome trim (stainless steel windshield reveal mouldings) on windshield, how do i attack that with not damaging the chrome?
The weatherstrip is different with the reveal mouldings, these are installed on the weatherstrip first .. then the weatherstrip is installed on the glass, which is then installed on the truck.

Windshield (clear/tinted/sun band) is the same: 1967/79 F100/750 & 1978/79 Bronco, but the weatherstrips are specific to either 1967/72 or 1973/79.

I can tell you that the custom cab chrome around the windshield makes the job a whole different animal. I installed my back glass easily myself. The windshield was a nightmare. After spending 4 hours on it, I gladly drove it to my local independent glass shop and was happy to pay him 25.00 to do the job. He had it installed within 30 minutes and said that they are in fact very tricky with the chrome trim.
