VSS - keep or what...

Rebuilding a sterling 10.5. Doing a hydroboost brake swap. Disc brake swap on the sterling. Do i need the tone ring for anything other than ABS? I thought speedo gear is in t-case. I would like to not use the tone ring as the old one is damaged and I dont want to get another.

In a 1991 the tone ring is only used for the RABS.
So I would say you do not need it.

What transmission? If the truck has a manual or C6 you are clear but if it's got an E4OD then maybe not. I know the speedo is cable driven in a '91 but I'm not certain where the electrical speed signal for the PCM is derived from.. if it also comes from the trans or t-case or if it comes from the rear axle sensor as it does in the later trucks.
