Unhappy 1990 t0 1993 10.25 swap speedometer issues

Okay folks, here's the story.
I built a 1990 era 10.25 sterling for a buddy of mine who is installing it in a 1993 F350 4wd 7.3 diesel with E4OD transmission. The primary reaon of the bu9ilt wass to eleiminate the time the truck would be done due to rebuilding his current rear gear. The issue has to do with the speedometer cable attaching to the rear 10.25 in the 1993 and the trransmission in the 1990. Is ther any way for him to hook up his speedometer cable to the E4OD in 1993 the way they did in 1990?

There is no good (easy) way to solve your problem, as you have found out the 90 model has a cable driven speedometer, and the 93 has an electronic speedometer driven by a VSS (vehicle speed sensor) mounted on top of the differential that gets it's signal from the tone ring inside. The 93 has no provisions for a speedometer cable either at the transmission or at the speedometer head.

Aside from using an expensive outboard VSS, your best bet is to rebuild the original and swap it back in..

Another thing, that E4OD will not shift properly without the electronic signal from the VSS.

Even though the '90 truck used a cable-driven speedometer, it should have RABS and the same tone ring and speed sensor in the axle as the '93.

analog speedometer to VSS converter

I see there are several VSS adapters on the market but haven't seen any yet to work with the factory VSS/PCM...Does anyone out there have any more info/experience with this issue?

Are you saying that the axle in it now is pre `87 and doesn`t have the RABS sensor as mentioned by EPNC?

Well then, as pointed out by EPNC the RABS sensor on the `90 and the VSS on the `92 up axles are the same part. If the speedo is not working then either the VSS is bad, wiring is bad, tone ring is bad.
