That's the best choice that way you know for certain and it will make it so much better than they came from the factory

That's always a good strategy

Give them the clutch pressure plate too ...

What cam would be best?

Thanks for tip on the pressure plate!

I'm wondering what cam to use in this engine. I'm not too worried about RPM's
as I suspect to hardly ever make it over 5000 rpm. My biggest concern is
torque. The truck will weigh about 12-13000 pounds unloaded and I'm wanting
it to be able to pull a house down if need be. Any suggestions? Also, I'm
running C6TE-G heads, C5AE-C intake, headers, and 9:1 CR.

Lunati 62001 or 62002 if you want a little more RPMs.... just my opinion though unless you want more of an RV cam

Call Ken at Oregon Cams and let him help you with a grind. Ken knows FEs very well and has some good grinds for making torque in a work truck.

Looking for a 391 FT intake manifold

There really isn't much that can be re-used from the FT motors that is practical, other than the block, pan, oil pickup (not the pump), rods, push rods, rocker shaft assemblies, and valve covers.

The balance issues were what convinced me to leave the FT alone. A 391 crank is externally balanced. You will need to have the crank balanced with the balancer and flywheel / flex plate- and hope that you never need to replace one of the three. The weight of the crank is really significantly more than a FE, designed to keep the heavy momentum going for a low revving motor.

Incidentally, if you really want any 391 stuff, I have too much.
I know it’s been several years, but do you still have 391 FT engine stuff? I’m looking for an intake manifold.

I have some things, but I don't think the intake- I don't recall there being much of a difference and with most iron 8's, exceptionally heavy. It was akin to stock 4BBL.

Thanks for the response. didn’t think there was much difference either, but I guess there is. I think I’ve found a 2 barrel setup in Idaho. If I go with the fitech fuel injection throttle body setup I can use the 2 barrel set up. I talked with fitech and they said it’s good up to 600 H.P. It has a stand alone computer that can govern so the rpm’s won’t get too high and cause other issues.

Ok, forgive me if this is a dumb question but it is also something I'm curious about, you're using a 330 block and a 391 crank?
