I hope someone can help me figure out what I have. I have the Steve Christ book and it helps alot. From what I understand, it has 390 heads, a 360 crank, pistons and rods with an FT block. Well, I'll put up the numbers I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Heads- D2TAA
3E24
Crank- 2TA
Pistons- C7TE-A (they are FoMoCo)
They also say 360 but look like 390 pistons
Block- 3E19
The block also has the reverse 105 on the front and rear. It also has a large X cast in the block (toward the rear I believe). The heads and the block also have an M over a C that has another c in it.
I'm confused on this one and nobody else here seems to have a clue. If guys could helps out it would be great. Thank you
Aint it amazing, ALL them FEs are 390s at selling time.
Aaron, Don't despare, the FT block is a mo desired block.

Depending on the weather the "Y" in the VIN signifies either the engine code for '352' which includes 360 & 390 and others, or it designates the engine as 360.
Kinda like seeing a georgeous gal? walkin the streets late at night in the bad part of town. You'll never know fer sure till you lift the skirt and check for the right equipment.
And thats what I'm doing, scraping the years worth of grime from the block and heads and checkin fer the right equipment.
A "Y" in the 4th position of the VIN indicates a 352 (1967) or a 360 (1968-?).
I think 90% of us who bought old Ford trucks with 390s in them found out later that they were really 360s. I did, too. If only we'd all found this board *before* we bought....
In any case, you have a pretty standard 73-76 360. That is the best block to have, as it is a heavier casting with a reinforced bottom end and thicker cylinder walls. The thicker walls mean it should run a little cooler, and is more likely to take a monster overbore. In fact, you can probably convert that engine to a 428 by boring it .080 over and using the rotating assembly (crank, rods, standard pistons, and flywheel/flexpate) from a 428. Alternatively, you can make it a 390 by replacing just the crankshaft and rods with a 390 set.
Your D2TE-AA heads are good heads, too, especially if they already have hardened exhaust seats.
Thanks for the help. I heard the engine run so I know the combo works. I'll probably just rebuild it the way it is and see how I like it. It makes you wonder how many of these guys that say they are running 390's really have 360's. Thanks, I'll let ya'll know how she turns out.
