Quick question. I have installed the modified C codes from ATS and Bilstein 5100's in the rear. After installing the shocks I noticed that there is only about 2 inches of travel in the shocks before they bottom out. Is this good enough? Or do I need to go with a different shock in the rear?
If you have more distance between the bumpstop and axle contact point (I forget exactly how that works on the RWD EXs...) than you have compression on the shock you will damage the shock on suspension compression. Did you get longer than stock-ish shocks?
The modded c codes gave me 4.5 more inches out back. Junior and I both thought that with that much lift from the springs the 5100's would be the way to go. I'll have to measure the bump stops tomorrow and see. But I think the 5100's are coming off 😟
I've never bought Bilsteins, were the 5100s that you bought speced out for a 4X4 or maybe a lifted 4X4, that would explain the available shock travel vs your suspension travel conflict. The 4X4 EX has a 2" lift block between the springs and axle that the RWD does not have.
It's looking like that's what happened. The kit Jr sent me the u bolts were way two long and now the shock. Looks like I didn't make myself clear in telling him 2x4. Man more delays the curt hitch whipped me for two days. Now this to ahhhhh
sounds like you have the length for a stock ride height setup, Bilstein makes the 5100 longer so it fits your lift. hopefully the vendor you purchased them from will exchange them for you. if not I am sure somebody here with a stock height needs some sweet shocks
It looks like in the Rwd you would need more than 4 inches of lift for the 5100 to work. I do believe ATS would take the back but that might a pain so I will probably throw them up in the for sale section. Now what shock do I need?
I am one of the lucky folks that have the rare 2wd Excursions. I am not sure if the part number it's not on any of my invoices from ATS.
I have noticed that Jr commented (in our emails )on the Rwd X having a lift block in the rear Mine does not have a block.
This was supposed to be a complete kit from him. I do see where the mistake was made on mine and his assumptions.
Just finished talking to Jr. He assumed that I had lift blocks or was going to install lift blocks. He even stated it in an email kinda. But anyway. He is going to send me some KYB for the rear and take back the 5100's great service there if you ask me
