6.0 catalytic converter

Odd question but does any one have a used catalytic converter that is bad ? I want to hollow it out. I live in California and have a couple of these trucks so I thought about just hollowing one and swapping it back and forth for smog testing but my luck i will hollow the one that is going to fail next year.

Anyone find a resource for a diesel 6.0L catalytic converter, CARB 50 state? I just bought an 03' Excursion from Florida and found they straight piped it. Need to get it smogged to get plates and thus need a Cat. Cannot find one anywhere. Anyone happen to have straight piped there's and have one lying around for sale?

The smog checks are just a plug in test now anyway. They scan your truck with an obd2 scanner to check that the pcm and all your emissions controls are working properly. They don't put a sniffer in your exhaust anymore. The catalytic converter is just a visual inspection now.

With as much as these stupid things cost maybe someone should
start a loaner program.

I'll even buy someone a test pipe if I can't get lucky locally.

If I weren't on the opposite side of the country I'd gladly let you have mine in exchange for a test pipe. But I'm pretty sure the shipping costs would be insane from coast to coast.

So I might have found a take off. It is from an 02' 7.3l though. Now my question is, did Ford use the same cat in both ? What part numbers if any should I be looking for?

I might have a guy. He has been good to me and a few others I have sent his way.
He retires old ambulances. His name is Jeff and I'll post you his Ebay link.

Make sure that you let him know that Sean sent you.

If you don't see something listed in an auction just send Jeff a message with
what your looking for and he will get back to you.
