So when I bought my 09 it came with both passenger and drivers side bed steps. I didn't really think too much about them. Until I found out how much they cost! Then they were kind of cool!. I've always had trouble with them. I live on a gravel road. After about 4 years I couldn't get them out. Well, I got them out this weekend and found that both struts are shot. Completely rusted out. So much I can't get a part number. So I contacted ford. They want $92 each!!! Woah!
So my question is.
Anyone replace theirs? Or can anyone give me the part number so I can cross it to see if one is available aftermarket?
They do come in handy now and again, but for $200 to replace just the struts, they look nice permanently tucked in as well!
Thanks in advance
I looked at some on a brand new truck....and I figured they would have the problems you have..............so, I probably would not get them on my next truck
I bought my truck cpo. They were there. Worked really slick for a couple years. Of course when I need them, ya it honks me off they don't!
I'm soooo glad I opted not to get a platinum. Power running boards on a gravel road? Nope.
I just ask Ford for the part number when they give me their outrageous price. I have wondered if they were a good option....Guess not so much. I do like the tailgate step...
I should have asked. But I was making the call in a hurry, at work. I could just all another dealer. .. they do work nice. Strapping things down they are perfect.

So I got the part number.
Online I can get the strut for @ $63 each. Better than straight from the dealer. But still pretty high for what you get.
Trying to cross the part number but no luck.
I had them on my 2011. When clean they worked great, but not with mud on them. Didn't work in the winter when they were bound up with ice and snow either. I wouldn't buy them again.
