I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me any clues on where to start my search for a replacement long-bed for my 1972 F100. My bed floor is rusted completely out at all 4 corners, the bottom edges, and all of the side body seams. The previous owner before the man I bought the truck from had used it to store trash in for a few years, and the retained moisture trashed the bed completely.
I am not sure whether to try and find a solid replacement, or just try to fab one together from a new parts supplier. Any help would be highly appreciated.
My truck had 1/4" diamond plate in it covering the whole floor for a number of yrs when I the truck. I was going to get a cabover camper and thought, I don't need the extra weight. So I unbolted it and found it was rusted through in to many places.
I called around to a few junk yards and the last said he would add me to the Junk yard wanted parts Hot line.
This hotline connected a great number of yards around the state.
These was back in the late 70's and with in two to three weeks a JY called and said they had a bed with a side tool box from a 70 ranger with a nice side moulding but no tailgate in nice condition for $175. They were about 50 miles away. So removed old bed and made the drive that week end. They helped put it on. I put a few bolts in and, I was one happy camper.
So today you can do it online and see what happens.

Look on Craigslist, wantads, etc. for pickup bed utility trailers. Many are in good shape and at a good price compared with junkyards. A 67 sold at an auction a week ago here for $200. To get an idea of the year of the box, look at the SAE number of the taillights if they haven't been changed out for newer ones and if the bed has rear marker lights which are sometime in 69 to 72.
