More good data still. Did you guys find how the truck compared to a Systemax I or just the II? The Systemax II is a REALLY good intake for milder street strip combos. Thanks for the responses.
Never ran a systemax 1 even though i owned one at one time lol...........its just a raised runner stock mustang HO style lower............my buddy had a lot of time in the truck lower....just not worth the trouble unless you plan on running a box style upper for blower/turbo/nos or stroker and even then there are better OTS options IMHO........
I agree on the systemax II............it is a GREAT intake for HCI/302 cars from mild to wild.........i wish i could afford to buy a few more for my stuff lol
I got my intakes confused. I was thinking that the Systemax I looked a lot like the II. I just looked up a pic of the Systemax I lower and I see I made a mistake. The II is what I was thinking of. It's the one that looks a lot like the truck intake (the port layout). I agree on the OTS options.
Thanks for the info on the truck lower. Maybe that can help the OP out.
Nope...........the 5.0 version............maybe "a ton" of work is over stating it a little but it needs serious runner porting/welding or epoxy/splashzone to compete with the systemax II......probably more time and effort than the average enthusiast is willing to give...........in 1990/91/92 it was a great lower to base a box upper on or as TFS did build a HEAVILY modified truck upper in conjunction with a maxed out lower ala Stormin Norman
There was a "milder" version that used the truck TB's...........Steve Collison (then editor of MM&FF) ran one on his project 5.0 with TFS heads and a mild SD cam.......car picked up when he swapped to MAF and a gt40/65mmtb combo, not much but was faster........not apples to apples but a comparison none the less..............
Honestly most of this is not going to apply to 99% of the guys on here and i think the truck upper/lower are fine intakes but the "racier" you get there might be other options...........i have a typhoon i plan to try on my van and my buddy is working on another modified truck upper and lower we may try and i would add that i try to base all my "opinions" off what i've personally seen or experienced at the track or dyno or what i consider a reputable source..............
Currently under the knife lol......................
