I am getting ready to pull the upper intake manifold on my girl, got to get to the fuel injectors, and I was wondering if there is a BETTER upper intake to go back with.. ya know like some mustang 5.0 thta does a better job from throttle body to lower intake.
Just wondering if anyone else has been down this road before I go and try to re-invent the wheel with hours of research.... >>
The factory intake actually flows surprisingly well, due the need for higher rpms when pulling, hauling etc. It was designed to flow better than the passenger intakes. You also have more TB size on the truck than you do the mustang.
I could be wrong, but I think if you wanted to change the upper intake you would have to swap the lower half as well. The f-150 intakes have huge runners in them, I don't imagine gaining much by changing your intake without also changing your heads and exhaust.

Yea, what do you have for exhaust right now? What pipe diameter and muffler are you running?
I have a port matched stock 86 EFI intake, ported E7TE heads, hedman long tube headers. I just got the motor started yesterday, not even broke in yet. I ordered some flowtech afterburner mufflers from Summit Racing. I had a set of those on my 70' chevelle I just sold and loved them.
Check out my video of first start up just yesterday. its open headers until I get the exhaust put on.
About 85% of my engine is still stock, I have never cracked the engine open simply because it doesnt need it. You guys are right, most uppers involve replacing a lower intake also, and no sense in getting a top-end kit till I do a true rebuild. I dont want to do a dress up, but i thought that since i had to take it off anyways..I would look into something more performance oriented.
I say that cause all my "mechanics/repair" have been with performance parts vs stock and she is noticeably a better driver. And most 5.0 mustang parts bolt right on, with minor relocating/moving in the compartment.
Thanks for your input guys I will prolly go back with what I have, just get some good fel-pro gaskets.
