Thanks for the kind words on the truck and my service. So far it has been bulletproof and probably the best vehicle I have ever bought, new or used. And Fluid Filmed the day I brought it home and every spring and fall since. The salt brine and salt they use here gets into every nook and cranny of vehicles so a good cleaning and rust proofing program is critical if you want to keep a vehicle for more than a few years.
I saw a pretty thorough testing thread on a different forum, that used all the top choices in multiple side by side tests. The winner, by a long shot was AMSOIL MPHD. Doesn't stay wet though, makes a wax like coating. Protected waaay better than the FF. I didn't get any yet, but I plan to this summer. https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produ...tal-protector/
I purchased a 2011 super duty 6.7 new in 11.
Had it treated every year on time. With
"Rust Check" Still rusted.
Traded it in on a new platinum 2015 f150. Last August .
(Only because the body did not change in super duty for 15/16. Mine had rust issues
On both door frames at the cold weld)
(Super crew.)
We purchased (2) 2015's one platinum and 1 fx4 lariat.
I sprayed Fluid film on the undercarriage on both trucks. Put 16000 miles in 11 months
On the platinum and 14k on the fx4.
I was under both trucks inspecting them this week not even a glimpse of rust anywhere.
We live in Canada, land of the brine and salt!
Dove my platinum through really crappy winter roads testing the body shell and fluid film out. As I knew I was trading it back in as soon a the SD were out!
I just ordered my new 2017 sd diesel platinum today!
I also ordered a 5 gallon Pail of fluid film!!
The stuff is amazing !
I'm going to go against the grain here and show my age at the same time. While I think fluid film and coatings of that ilk are great for vehicles that have been on the road a while (exposed to the winter corrosives), I am not of fan of it for new vehicles.
The permanent coatings, like Ziebart, have worked well for many, many years. I have never had a vehicle rust out that was undercoated from new. The permanent coatings also provide a certain amount of noise insulation as well.
In 1975 I had my Chevy station wagon undercoated by the dealer; when I traded it in on a Camaro in 1985 it had no rust. Had the dealer undercoat the Camaro - it still has no rust (my son owns the car now). My 2012 truck is undercoated and it is also rust free.
If these had been used vehicles, I would use Fluid Film or similar to avoid trapping corrosives between the coating and body, but when new, my experience is that the "one time and done" approach works very well.
That's my thread. I'll be posting a 5 year update with pictures in Sept or Oct. My results are not skewed by meticulous care taking. Literally anybody could get results as good or better than me. I washed my truck maybe two times this year right after spring thaw. Truck sits outside 24/7. It has been in a 190 mph tornado. Real winters in Illinois and lots of moisture and humidity in the summer. Basically, my truck lives in a rust factory and Fluid Film is doing a good job.
