i have 1997 f250 7.3 im trying to id the rear end can some one direct me to
a chart or ? so i can identify my rear end. i think it may have been replaced!
the tag on it says (ed1-d5ta-nfa) the tag on the door frame says c-5
i think the rear end has been changed no speed sensor on rear end
thanks steve
Post up some pics of it, I can't find anything relating to the numbers you posted. Pic of the diff cover, the top of the pumpkin where the VSS should be, and a good shot of the tag on the cover if that's what you're talking about, and of course an overall pic of it.
im trying to id my tag on rear end 1997 f250 the code on my tag is (c-5)
when i look it up in ford manual there is no reference to c-5
i uploaded a copy from my manual no reference
also i uploaded a copy of the tag on the rear end, definately not the correct rear end. can some tell me how to reference a (c-5) in a manual.
my trans is zf5 manual if that helps.
thanks steve
Edit: this is assuming you have an OBS F250, and NOT the new body style F250 LD. That is an odd axle tag, I honestly have not seen one like that. The ratio has always been on the left followed by the axle designation.
Edit 2: near as I can tell, this would appear to be some type of Dana axle, the part number sequence seems to fit although I haven't been able to match the exact number.
So you have no VSS on the pumpkin?
10 bolts holding the diff cover on?
And in order to access the brakes, you need to remove the axle shaft and wheel bearings?
yea your rite and 4:10 ratio are scarce only manual transmissions had them
found a couple but there out of state to far away.
oh well one will pop up sooner or later
thanks steve
how bizarre.someone just had an axle probably when something bad happened because i doubt anyone would go out of their way to buy something oddball when 3.31 isn't much higher than 3.55.
srw 10.25 sterlings in 3.55 and 4.10 are easy to find.go to car-part.com and you'll find either inside a couple mins.you can go with 3.55 if you don't tow large trailers all the time.just because it originally came with a 4.10ls axle doesn't mean you can't grab yourself a touch better fuel economy if the 4.10's would just go unused.well, you've been running near the 3.55 gears,so if they have been acceptable to ya,then just find a 3.55 sterling to make the truck right and still fit your needs.
