CEL came on today on my 2011 F-250 6.7 with 48K miles. It did not show a message or shut down. When I checked the code it was P2479 EGT Out of Range Bank 1 Sensor 2. I was reading about a letter last year, which I did not receive, concerning an extended warranty. My questions are: What is the part number? About how much do they cost? Is there still a back order? How are they identified and located in the exhaust system? I found a diagram stating: EGT 12, 14 ect? hw does that correlate to Bank & Sensor? Thanks
If I'm not mistaken, the Bank 1, sensor 2 is EGT12. You can find pics in the tech folder or here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...it-please.html
Post #11 shows the location of the sensors. As far as I know, the sensors are still around $40 when ordered from one of the FTE sponsors here.
Thanks for the info and the link! My initial search didn't find that one. The CEL did not come back on the next morning, and has been off since. I still am curious about what condition warrants a shutdown that seems to be such a hot topic. Maybe the software re-flash back in February of last year had a fix for the shutdown issue.
I want to get the PIDs arranged on my Dash Command App so I can monitor the EGTs. Anyone know where I can find them? I see them for the EGR, but not much for the EGTs.
Damned EGT sensors. I own a 2011 6.7 .... Amazon has the sensors for $35 ish. I purchased 2 of them and will be changing them in advance of their crippling shut-down functions. I have a scanguage and they advertise the EGT codes for programming. Works well in my rig. good luck. I have 99,000 miles with no previous failures FYI
I had a failure post flash but it was on EGT14. Didn't shut me down though, it just lit the check engine light. Read the codes that targeted EGT14.
I was on my way home to get my 5th wheel to go camping and didn't want to wait 2 days for the dealer to do it, so I purchased one and replaced it in 15 min and cleared the codes. All was good.
If you are going to replace one, be careful and go slow. Soak it with penetrating spray first and let it sit. You don't want to twist the bung off the exhaust pipe.
Also use a line wrench or others know it as a flare wrench. 13mm. OR make sure you have the correct sensor, disconnect it from the wiring harness, and cut the wire off of the sensor and use a 6 point 13mm socket and ratchet to get it out. But, if you haven't put anti-seize on them, spray them and let them soak!
I used PB Blaster and it broke free after just a couple minutes. The wire was sitting right on the pipe and melted. It doesn't look like it melted the wires, just the outer sheath. I replaced it with antiseize on the threads. Fired it up and cleared the code.
I think I have had three of the four replaced on mine, all under warranty at the dealership. The last one was a couple of weeks ago.
ETA - and none of the CEL's ever caused my truck to shut down - I drove around for probably a month with the last one. I finally had it replaced when it was time for an oil change.
great pics and info!! I thought I saw a video where they showed four sensors, 11,12,13,and 14 in that order from front to rear in the pick-ups. The Video said 13 is the one with the shut-down issues, just like advertised here. Mine was running 1200+ degrees today during regen ... very little load FYI
I have the same problem with my 2011. I bought the sensor form the dealer but can not reach the wire connector. The exhaust is too close to the frame to get an arm in there. If I reach over the top I can only touch the connector. I see no way to release the keeper on it.
