All you 5ivers
Later I saw these two and wondered if they were driving it?
$31.5 out the door including adding a Coleman Mach 8 13,500 Btu AC unit in the bedroom (THANKS Iron Cobra for the advice) and buying/installing a Reese Pro Series 5th wheel Hitch.
They originally had 6 of this model and sold them all except this one with its 'odd' floor plan (only one recliner chair). TIP: Camping World starts reducing the price on any unit in inventory past 180 days, so if you are looking and CW has a unit you want find out how long they have had it...
Wife is happy and happy wife, happy life!
And thanks to all those who made suggestions and supported me. Guess I am a member of the club now....
Start a log book for the trailer, when, where, dates, miles round trip and anything note worthy.
Note paper/pen to start writing down all those items you now need.
2 wks exploring the lake canyons on the rocket sled: 300 Hp Turbo.
Thanks for your service brother!
We're you able to trade in your truck camper or are you selling it privately?
You could probably easily build a small ramp for your dog for the new trailer and stow it under neath because I would imagine he will still have a little trouble with those stairs.
The Reese pro series is a good hitch too, pretty cheap and easy to take out when you don't need it.

I went with the Reese 5th bracket because one of the options on my unit was the Reese pin box (over the oem) so decided to go with the Reese in the truck bed.
Water tightness, hey us Infantry guys when it rains we stand in it to wash our uniform and have a bath at the same time.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
They will cut down on tracked in dirt and it is easier for my dog. And, I was afraid she would get a claw stuck on one of the holes in the steps and do damage to her foot.
Enjoy and thank you for your service!
New 2016 Jayco EAGLE HT 27.5RKDS Fifth Wheel For Sale -
PRICE is RIGHT. They want to move it and are willing to deal...why is what I asked? Been in inventory 300 days, floorplan is not a big seller. It only has one recliner chair, not two and no place for a second...BUT we don't want the chair, its where a DOG BED will go....

Make sure you restrict the "Rain" showers to the outside.......The showers to the bathroom shower stall. You now, like in a house.........

Say hi to the doggies.......
Trip Report:
Headed out Tue 12 Apr Ok City, Camping World, a Jayco Dealer to see, inspect and hopefully buy our new 2016 Jayco Eagle HT (note: the 'HT' stands for 'half-ton' pickup) 27.5 RKDS. We did the trip in 1 day and checked into the Empty Arms Inn not far from Camping World. We got a room on the bottom floor at the end of the hall way next to the exit door. We did this so as to smuggle our 5 dogs in and out with out having to pay $250 for them.
This was the first time in my truck life that it had driven more than a trip to town with no load. The result was:
14.2 mpg - 528 mi, My place (N of San Antonio) to Camping World Ok City. We drove the back roads almost all the way and avoided Interstate.
Wed we went over and confirmed we wanted it after checked out the Jayco. We then dropped off my Dually to have the Reese 15k 5th wheel installed and to have the front bedroom AC unit installed along with a few other minor mods to a $2700 parts and labor bill. Due to some major foul ups they volunteered to knock off $800 bucks, dropping my mod bill to only $1900. Something about installing the wrong 5th wheel assembly and breaking a vent when they went to install the AC unit, they telling me they could not get me out till Sat or even this Mon.. I said hell no and I will go. All total I picked a bit more than $1k in refunds and discounts...I think the key was it being an all cash deal and we had laid out our timeline etc. If I walked it was a major loss to them.
The Jayco pulls like a dream and as I truck was set up for my Truck Camper titling the scales at 5500 lbs + it was truly a different experience. My truck has Rancho RS 9000 XLs, Big Wig swaybar F/R and TorkLift Stable loads. The RESULT: Dial in on the front Ranchos a 7 setting and 6 for the rear ( down from 9 all the way around when hauling the TC). The read Big Wig swaybar has 3 settings and I moved it from the #2 (middle) to the outside setting (or the least firm). Truck rides GREAT!
Not sure of pin weight, the rolling weight of the 5'iver is about 10,000 lbs and I understand the pin weight is about 25% of that????? Please make me smarter on this if this is incorrect.
Coming back from Ok City we took 2 days and drove about the same route come back as we did going up, avoiding the major highways but still running about 65 mph.
The TWIST: After 7 years with my TC riding in the back of my 3 F 350's the trip mpg would run from 9.2-9.8 is safe bet day in day out. But my first trip in my 4000 lb+ heavier 5'iver yielded this:
10.8 mpg over 500+ mi????
Why the diff? My theory is aerodynamics. The TC is a dirtty barn door, I have a in-motion satellite dish, solar panel, 5 ft x 3ft x 3 st Thule and an assortment of AC + sky lights and vents all on top of my TC...can you say DIRTY. Major wind resist. The 5iver is as quiet as a church mouse running on cotton.
Why did we pick the Jayco 27.5? Simple, my wife liked the floor plan better than all the others and to quote her: "If Sally is not happy, then no one is happy, happy wife, happy life".... We both miss the TC and not sure if we may not use it in the future for a trip down Baja we keep wanting to do. TC's are very rugged units as they sit in the bed and take the ride a lot better if you go off road or travel the roads of Mexico...
Anyhow its us and 5 dogs and while we loved out TC, with dogs getting older and not as nimble we needed something they could climb the stairs and not have to jump (which we did not let them do anyhow).
Kitchen in the rear, all stainless, wife loves it
Bedroom up front has a 'closet' slide that you can hang clothes in!! Bed lifts up for under-storage
Well its home, guess I need to shuffle trucks and cars out in the barn to fit it in, for now it will set in front of the house as the wagon rolls this Thurs on another trip...
And thanks to all who gave sage advice, pointers and suggestions, you made it a lot easier for us to make a choice

with a cheap lifestyle generally comes less worries.........generally...
