I have 11,000 miles on the truck. When I'm at a head wind going about 65mph or faster the truck makes a cross between a humming, buzzing sound. It started about a month ago. It's been pretty windy around here lately and every time I'm at a head wind or a good cross wind it makes this noise. I can't find anything loose anywhere. It seems to be coming from the front drivers side somewhere. Be hind the dash maybe.
Has anyone had this problem? It is getting louder, and pretty troublesome on long trips. Now try taking this problem to the dealer. And where I'm living right now I don't trust the dealership.
I guess I could only travel with the wind. Isn't that a song.
Mine has done the same thing pushing a nasty headwind on the highway. Struggled to get to 14 MPG empty that trip. Never did it before or since that day. I can verify it happens and you're not nuts. Doubt the dealer will be any help though.
Search for 'kazoo" or go straight to https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...1-f-350-a.html . If that is your problem the solution likely will be remove and re-install the windshield. With the fix I still have noise in severe headwinds.
Mine has done the same thing a few times, except it's on the passenger side. It only happens when I'm going pretty fast and there's a crosswind. At first I thought it was the windshield, but now I'm thinking that air gets between the door and the seal and vibrates something in the jamb.
On my passenger side jamb sort of behind where the mirror would be when it's closed is a plastic piece. It seems like something that could buzz because it's a little loose. I might try to put a little silicone on it, but it's hard to duplicate the problem to see if it actually fixes it.
Had the same problem with my 2011 F250. Took a friend that owns a body and glass shop with me (he also has much better ears that I do)!!!! We determined that the windshield needed re-sealing! Yup! That was the problem!
The buzzing was worst when the head wind was hitting the passenger side, if this helps any!
What we ended up doing was to try to locate the specific area of the noise, then tok 2 inch wide masking tape and taped over the windshield gasket in the area of the noise, then drive into the wind......when the noise stopped, we then knew where the windshield needed to be re-sealed.
I don't know if some windshields have a slight deformity and just don't seal as good during assembly, or if it is just manufacturers trying to use as little sealant as possible, and end up with a few leaky windshields.
Also, mine never leaked water during a rain storm, either......just FYI
Good luck
Thanks guys, I'll try some masking tape on the windshield. The noise does seem to move around a little. I'm not living with it. It happens every time there's a head wind. The truck is only a year old, and cost to much to live with. I never thought it might be the wind shield. I was looking under the hood and checking the cowl. ( intake for the a/c )
My truck sounded like a kazoo once going down the highway into a strong cross wind. Sounded like it was coming from the windshield. It doesn't leak so I'm not worried.
Ditto X10. My 08 and 11 did this. The cause: the hard black plastic windshield perimeter gasket that comes as part of the windshield from Ford...it delaminates and the wind gets under it causing the kazoo effect. Check wiper cowl tray and the cab roof rail gaskets. Both will contribute to this phenomena as well. Be real sure the window replacement jockey (tech) puts the roof rail gasket under the windshield perimeter along the "A" pillar. The first monkey that installed mine insisted that it goes on the outside...nope, the wind gets under it that way. It gets tucked under the windshield perimeter. He actually ripped mine and broke the wiper cowl tray. Wind got under both. The well known company replaced everything with new Ford parts. Problem solved.
