I have a 1970 F250, and it has a problem with starting. When I start it, seems like every other time I try, it will not start. It sounds like it trys to turn over, but then eventually when the key gets turned, it only makes a clicking noise, and it seems like the battery goes dead, but all electronics work. Im new with classic trucks, so i dont know much bout them. Im not sure if i should get a new battery or if it is something with the starter. need help!
Hook jumper cables to it and if it turns over fast the battery is probably bad. Remove the starter and take it to be tested. Change the solenoid on the passenger side inner fender. The ignition switch may be bad.
clean connections and check battery voltage. no need to look at the starter/ignition switch/relay at this point.
Also make sure your bat. cables and terminal ends are in good shape. May look good till you look closely at them. If that checks out ok I would look at ignition switch and see if you have round terminal original switch. If so might need to replace it.
I agree with the people who say battery connections, I have had this problem a couple of times, usually after sitting for a while, and what I usually find is that cleaning the battery connections solves the problem.
