So .. I just turned 17 and got my first truck it's a 96' f-150 standard cab, short box, manual ... It has a EFI I6 300 in it and it sounds like a dinky lil lawnmower ... I'm planning on putting a 2.5" ... Dual "Straight pipe" WITH a muffler .. I have 2 Thrush Rattler's for it .. Think it will sound louder / better ?
Straight pipe normally means no mufflers, but I am running true dual exhaust with glasspacks and 3" tailpipes. It is plenty loud. I don't really care for it so I will be changing them to either magnaflow or flowmasters. It depends on what you can tolerate..
I could probably chime in here. The best exhaust system I had on my pickup was either my single in dual out flowmaster or my current dual inlet single outlet magnaflow. I've had true dual flowmasters on my truck I didn't like it at all. When at idle it sounded great you could really hear the cam I have but it sounded like a rice burner when I was giving it gas. That exhaust system didn't last long. I think the idea if you have efi manifolds or header is to have the exhaust pulses join together.
Admittedly, I'm just an old curmudgeon - but on a 20-year old truck, you're probably better off dumping that money into brakes, suspension etc. than a "Lookee MMEEE!!!" noisy exhaust. Unless the exhaust on there is truly shot, in which case by all means fix it early - that's one of those items which can literally kill you.
I'm thinking of putting on a Thrush 24200 to replace my OEM type muffler.
It's affordable for me but I'm a tad concerned how the sound is with the I-6. Dailey driver and my racin' days are long gone.
Anyone have this muffler and can give me some noise info?
Thanks
Dave

And see I am 100% for the loud exhaust .. I've always been around drag cars and I personally race stock cars so I'm used too the loud, obnoxious sound
