I have a '62 and I'm not sure which fender emblems/hood emblems are correct for a '62. I have hood spears that I believe are correct but my truck used to be a US Forestry service truck so it didn't originally have them (no holes). I also have fenders off of an unknown year that have holes for the fender emblems that I don't have. Are there any fender emblems that are correct for the '62 that I could put there and not have to worry about filling the holes or should I just fill the holes and forget about it? (I'm just looking for the easy way out - I hate body work )
If memory serves me correct (keep in mind that's a stretch) the fender emblems appeared on the 65's which indicated they had the "I-beams". Prior to that, the Ford emblems were located on the sides of the hood. What you do with the holes is really your call, you can even try to find some other sort of emblem that you like the looks of, personally, I fill 'em all and make it clean.

I believe your right Mike, I've got a 65' with the fender embelems. Seems to me that prior to 65' they were located on the side of the hood. 65' and later they were on the fender, not necessarly denoting twin I beam, but what model and chassis options were on the truck.
For what it's worth, both my '63 and '64 have the holes for the emblems on the hood; the fenders are clean on both trucks. I think you have a set of 65/66 fenders; I'd hunt the badges from one of those years if you want to save the body work.
The all the emblems I've seen were made with a clear-plastic insert and have the lettering applied to the inside, regardless of whether they were on the hood or fender - I'm going to see if I can get creative with mine and put something different in there... Maybe create a 351C insert just to confuse folks? I don't think it will be all that tough to shape a piece of plexiglass to fit...
Does your truck have a straight front axle?. I.e., no twin I-beam front suspension? If so, and it has the twin I-beam emblem on the fenders and no emblems on the hood, then I would guess that both the original hood and fenders have been replaced.
If it actually has twin I-beam front suspension, then it is not a '64.
That's a great reference site you linked in there! Thanx for that.
As for Tysons' Original question, I agree with Mike G, 1Ton & John, NO FENDER HOLES until 65 & twim I beam.
I believe 61-64 had a hood side emblem similar to 65-66 fender emblem which had F100 -F250- F350, or Custom Cab, in it like the 65 & 66 fender emblems have "Twin I Beam" in theirs. I had a 62 F250 4X4 it had hood side emblem w/ F250. 65-66 models had a Custom Cab door "script" where elbow goes w/ window open.
As far as "Hood Spears" go, I think that's 65 & 66 thing. I don't recall ever seeing a virgin 61- 61 with them. But I've been wrong before. I have given up on relying on the trim, scripts & emblems I run across on these trux. Unless I know it's a virgin, 1 owner or something like that.
Now, 40-45 years after the fact, who knows what happened?

The hood spears... My 66 had one.. Its for non V8 models
My other 66 Had the V8 Logo tho...
But I agree... best way to tell them is by the Bed/Twin Ibeams/Grille
