Turbo back pressure??

Is it possible to have too high of a back pressure on the discharge side of the turbo? I was on the way home from work the other day and experienced a loss of power and my truck did not want to shift. It promptly blew the lower hose of the discharge tube off. These are new hoses so I thought maybe I didn't get them tight enough. Fixed it and test drove and seemed to run normal. I drove it the other day pulling a trailer and it would intermittently struggle to shift, seemed to be worse with the tow haul on. No check engine light. Starts and seems to run well. This acts this way with engine hot or cold. Any ideas?

Do you have an OBD scanner or a way to monitor Exhaust back pressure, VGT duty cycle & MAP?

Nope. I was just looking at one of those Bluetooth adapters and the Torque app. Would that tell me that info?

Torque Pro and a blue tooth adapter would be the most cost effective way to go. I believe You'll have to set up the formulas so it reads what you want. There are quite a few threads about it in the 6.0L and 7.3L forums.

I have not used it myself but it will ether read exhaust back pressure in volts or PSI.

Which boot are you talking about that blows off? The blue turbo outlet boot behind the alternator?

If it's the turbo outlet boot - It sounds like you might have not installed the new boot tight enough or cleaned off the nmating surfaces enough. When she pops off your truck will be left feeling gutless with no power.

Not the one behind the alternator but the lower one down by the rad. It just seem odd that it wouldn't shift and then blew that hose off. Now it ocassionally doesn't want to shift. Did it once on the way home today but I gave it a quick goose and it shifted. Weird. I will order the dongle and see if I can find out what you guys are asking for.

Did you use the torque listed to install it or just get it tight?
You may need to use some plastic safe cleaner on the inlet pipe
and then also clean the inside of the rubber boot. Then reassemble
and torque it.

NOTE : I thought I had the specifications sheet for your year but it
seems I don't. I can get it you want it later.

How much boost are you building when she pops off?

Not sure yet. I don't have anything to measure it with yet. I have the Bluetooth plug in coming and will see if I can use the torque app.
