Repairing window regulator

Both window regulators in the 51 have the stub for the window crank handle sheared off. Other than that they are in fine shape. I hate to purchase a whole unit due to that one issue. I have not been able to locate a repair for this, only the complete units. Have any of you taken a shot at such a repair, and if so could you share the details and/or successes/failures of such an endeavor?

Did the handle fail, or the shaft in the regulator?

the shaft in the regulator sheared. What remains is left in the handle.

I'd have sworn someone was selling just the shaft with pinion gear, but I'm not seeing it for 48-52's.

Someone must have been seriously abusing that for it to fail like that. Can you tell if the rest of the regulator is in decent shape?

the regulator itself is good. moves relatively freely, surface rust only. I also have been looking for just the gear, but with no success. I suppose I could locate a used, reasonable priced one and swap the gears.

I'm in the same situation. The shafts are actually like pot metal or zinc. My passenger
side just crumbled while the rest of the regulator is good. I see repair kits for other apps
but not for '51 trucks.
