Bought the 2011 F150 Lariat used, no window sticker shows on line, got a build printout from the Ford parts man. According to the build, it says "with remote srart".
Got one key and separate fob with the truck....just a black key, not the remote key. Had a second black key made at dealers expense and kept one remote from the trade in. All works well but.....Would like to have the remote start functionable.
Dealer says buy the key, $140, plus cut and program. Lock shop says $190 for it all.
My question is if I buy the key and have it cut, can I program it properly in the truck....including remote start.....since I have two regular coded keys?
You need two keys. I haven't found any locksmiths in my area that can program a replacement key if I only had one key. You may check around with your local locksmiths. Most likely it will be a dealer program.
Just as a closing followup on the key deal.....I bought ($35 for two) two remote start type keys with the remote buttons in the head of the key. They came from an Amazon seller. Got them cut ($2 for two) at ACE Hardware once the clerk understood that I was not concerned with them trying to program them. Got home and did the online programming guide using the two original keys to set up the new ones. This worked for normal starting with the new keys. Then I had to do the remote fob programming to get the buttons to work on the new keys. All is well now and the new to us 2011 Lariat has its factory remote start working again with two keys all for under $40....plus two regular keys and fobs.
I really do not see why the original keys were missing unless there was a repo in its life....which I find no record of. We got the truck with one black topped non remote key and fob and the dealer paid for a second. We had no idea it had remote start until I did so research.
Pretty cool how everything worked out. I had bought a Highlander a few years back(Now the wife's ride) and the salesman handed me the keys that had a tag on how to operate the remote start. I followed the instructions with no luck. I then researched the remote start and looked for the module and where it should be installed. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found. Either the PO or dealer removed it or it was never there to begin with. To top it off, I received a bill for a unpaid toll charge from Canada. Got to love used cars.
