1997 e-super duty 30 ft motor home. Set from October to Sunday. Belongs to my father in law. He went to start it and it made a racket. Opened hood couldn't see the engine for the pack rats nest. I have now spent 9 hrs cleaning out the crap and have fixed a dozen cut / chewed wires, vacuum lines, washer hose. Still not getting the vss signal. No speedometer doesn't shift right. Will spend more time tomorrow chasing the gray / black wire. Moved from his house to mine just to get away from the rat. The rat had started to rebuild his nest over night. Not sure how to keep the little rat ******* out. Hate to put out poison due to pets but may have to when it goes home. Any ideas.
Tough luck----vehicles sitting idle or parked for extended periods seem to attract problems, sometimes the reasons are quite clear. If there's an upside here its that you know where to start looking.
If poison would be the solution I'd place several traps inside the engine bay or on the engine itself. Another "trick" might be spraying a solution of household ammonia and water on the areas the rats are attacking. That's a highly offensive odor to their sensitive noses, tends to keep them away even if for just one night at a time.
With any good luck repairing the visible damage to wiring and hoses will solve these issues.
Well add the Vss sensor wires to his victim list and the left brake / turn signal wire. Also the vacuum line at the tee down in the fender well. Believe we have all of it fixed. Nearly 20 hours labor.
I had a nest built up on top of the manifold of my 1971 Chevy pick up recently. Weirdly enough the rat was using the base rock from the parking area to make a little wall around his nest.
I blasted the nest off the manifold (with a hose) three or four times before he finally gave up. I also left the hood open about a foot so he would feel exposed. He was stubborn, but I was determined.
