Within the last two weeks, my left turn signal started to blink quickly. My right signal works fine. The crazy thing is that it only 75% of the time and yesterday, it work fine when I was pulling a trailer. Any ideas of what could be going on?
This is my experience with a fast blinker - your mileage may vary!
.... Chances are that you've got a loose wire (possible one that is broken inside the insulator) that is giving you an intermittent connection.
When the wire is loose/not connecting, you get a fast blinker, which in your case is an indicator to inform you that one of your left signal lights is not working.
When the wire has a good connection, everything works as normal.
Check your wiring for loose connections or stress signs on your insulator. This happened to me twice. Once when the wires rubbed through due to the front left wheel well plastic rubbing against that part of the harness. The other time this happened was when my left rear wire was broken inside the insulator about 14" from the tail light.
On that second occasion the insulator was not broken, but had that white "stretched" or stressed look to it. I moved the wire a bit and could tell that there was a break in the connection because it was not stiff at all. All I had to do was cut the insulator, bare the wire, solder and heat shrink it and it was as good as new (the first time it took me hours to find and minutes to fix as the problem was upfront and I started from the back).
Another possibly simple fix is check all of your turn signal bulbs. IF one is burnt out then it will not put enough load on the flasher and will cause the flasher to blink very fast. Just a thought, good luck.
At first I thought it was a burned out bulb, but after I checked out the bulb and it looked ok. I started to play with the wiring and it started to work. Thank you for the infomation.
