I am replacing my manual 3 speed overdrive Transmission with a C6 Automatic. Did Ford put C6 Transmissions in 1980 with 302 Engines ? And if they did is there a TV rod that has to be adjusted ?
The C6 doesn't use a TV rod. Instead, it uses a kick down link. If you don't have the kick down link, as I don't have on Rusty, the transmission won't go into 2nd by flooring the throttle. Big deal - just pull the shift lever into 2nd.
While Ford did make c6 trannies with the 300/302/351w bellhousing pattern, they are sometimes hard to find in 2wd versions. A lighter duty tranny is more common behind the 302 in a 2wd pickup, like the c5. And 4x4 c6 versions are more common also in the small engine pattern.
I have an '86 factory service manual. I can send you the diagram and adjustment instructions.
This site is terrible. Pop up junk and it posted this answer to the wrong thread.

Here is a thought, if all you can find is a small bell housing C6 from a 4x4 and you are going to rebuild it any way go for it.
When you have it rebuilt just swap out the 4x4 out put shaft for a 4x2 out put shaft.
I did that to a GM TH400 I used in my drag car as I needed an AMC bolt pattern from a Jeep TH400.

With the Ford tranny you have to tear down the whole thing like you said, but he would also have to find a tailshaft section to convert it to 2wd. GM trannies are easier in that repsect.

No you have to do the same thing with the GM's also, find a 4x2 out put shaft and tail housing. He can find/use any 4x2 C6 parts if the yoke is right for what he needs. May need to check if long or short out put shaft/housing. For my drag car I needed a short setup for less flexing.
And I think it is the same with any auto trany the output shaft is the last to come out and first to go back in on rebuilds.
I just wanted to give the OP person an option if all he could find was a 4x4 small bell C6 auto.
