There's a LOT of juice stored in your system.. Everyone has a different suggestion on how to drain it. If you take the cable off it WILL drain, just takes longer than keeping the headlight switch on.
Some say to hold it in the "start" position, but there are voltage regulators to make sure it's getting the correct voltage, once it drops lower it doesn't take any more power.
Your headlights are voltage-independant.
Simply put, it drains your battery faster and makes sure to get all the power out of the lines.
OK UPDATE:
I did take the negative battery cable out for about 30 mins. put it back.... and tried to crank it up. Seems that there is still a code on the PATS system. The truck still wont turn on. it will crank but no ignition.
I guess I'll be spending 200 bucks to get this truck repaired.

oh yeah. i'm not sure why. but I couldnt open the door with my original keys if the alarm is on. I have to press the unlock button on my remote before i could open it.
I think my whole system is messed up.
