Blood red moon
Now it's turning orange as it gets higher. Are there any bad forest fires going on right now? I remember a couple of years ago when the sun was red like that and you could see it easily cause it wasn't that bright.

Blood moons have caused more panic than anything else, I think. Caused by low level moist pollutants, such as smoke in thin cloud. As the refraction alters, by the angle increases as the moon rises, the colors change from deep blood red to normal in maybe 12 stages. Most spectacular, and thoroughly terrifying in days gone by.. Many a sly monk has increased his stipend by foretelling doom only he can avert.

I saw it to tonight to. Enjoy it! It looked really cool. The color is caused by the haze and dust in the atmosphere. The same reason the Sun looks so swollen and red at sunrise and sunset.
Did you know that when the harvest moon appears it looks huge doesn't it? When you see it, take a quarter out and hold it at arms length next to the moon. When the moon has moved up into the sky take out your quarter and check it again. You will find that the moon is the same size!

Last year the harvest moon was on a weekend. I went out in the morning and took pics, but this year I have to work.

there are a lot of forest fires burnign here, 88, and the smoke and dust is drifting over towards you.
However the moon looks red because it is passing through a lot more of our atmosphere and the gases are altering its perception by changing the frequency of the light waves. Ultramagdan knows a lot about this.
