I know this had nothing to do with a ford truck, but i am desperate. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of Red Wasp in the house. I think they may be biulding in the walls. I can't seem to find any active nests outside around the eve of the house. I have killed 13 in the house so far this spring and it hasn't even reached 90* degree's yet.
If they are, I had the same problem when I was growing up. What we had to do was use about 4 cans of Raid. I mean, they just wouldn't stop. It happened twice, about 3 years apart, and took about 2 hours to get them all dead and cleaned up.
no (bigrigfixer) these are actually red wasp, bright red and pretty good size. They hurt like crazy if they sting. I have yet to get stung by one this year but i have in the past, AND THEY HURT !
thanks mil1ion, i might have to give that a try. The only bad part is i don't know where they are coming in at.
I gotta get off of here, the server shuts down at 10/ central time here at work, so i will do my best to answer your replys when i get to a true conection.
You can make book that if they are getting into the house via a wall passage (not just through an open door or window) there's a nest and maybe many in the walls.
The trap is an excellent idea, but use several and not just in the house but outside also.
Look for any opening, usually around an eave. If there's any water damaged areas look there, they love the combination of bad wood and water.
Replaced some fascia board for a customer, on an added-on porch. Cleaned out dozens of nests (up to 8" diameter) and several hundred of the red buggers.
thanks for that incouraging info KenB that really helps a guy who is almost deathly scared of them in the first place, just kidding, i will have to get on that. As a matter of fact i may run by wally world tonight and pic up some yellow jacket traps, they should work just the same currect ?
Another thing to mention, buy a can of Great Stuff,it is an expanding foam and anywhere you see a hole both inside and out squirt some in the hole, and the best time to do it is either late in the evening,or first thing in the morning when the temp is at its coolest.
I would call the pros. Wasp are not like bees in that their stinger is smooth and does not pull out of their body like the barbed stinger on a bee does. You tick off a nest of wasps and the consequences could be extremely serious.
You might have had carpenter bees that drilled holes into your house. Then the wasps kill them and move in. The thing to do is wait around at dusk and see where they land.
I have seen those big red wasps take out a huge bumble bee in mid-air and take it home. Also, saw two wasps building a nest inside the corner of a huge spider's nest. Tell you, that spider stayed well clear of the wasps and I thought a spider would go after whatever was in the web no matter what.
Those red ones are bad news for bugs, that is fior sure.
Look around your windows.. my dad had a nest of wasps inside the frame of the window and would go in and out of the house as they pleased.
Here's an easy wasp-trap that my grandpa showed me how to make:
Take the end of a watermelon or half of a grapefruit and suspend it dome-side-up over a 5 gallon bucket with detergent in it. The wasps will eat the melon (or grapefruit) and when they go to leave they drop down into the bucket and drown. The trap lasts quite a while, and all you have to do to refresh it is replace the fruit
