Why good afternoon. The weekend wasn't too bad. My Camaro is overheating at idle despite me tearing the engine apart and adding dual fans last summer. I think I'm going to throw my Bronco flex-a-lite 295 fans on it to see if that cures the problem since I have the 7.3 stock fan on the Bronco now.
This wind today is pretty rough! I'm glad I'm not painting or doing much that requires calm weather.
You mean generator parts no cause we are ordering them on the first of may. Me and dad might pull the old pump and see if we can put new seals in it or something.

I believe so. I know I replaced the upper hose and the thermostat (twice) with a 185 degree one. I am pretty sure I checked the lower hose as well for collapsing and didn't see anything. It won't hurt to check again!

I've seen a hose that looked perfect on the outside, but the inside delaminated and would collapse blocking flow.
Hopefully its an easy fix.
Otherwise i can only suggest a bad rad or airlock...but that should affect it more under a heavy load than at idle.
But once no ram air is passing through the radiator, it is dependent on the fan as you said to keep it cool.
How hot does it get?
Are you seeing temps of 210 or 215?
Well apparently these cars are supposed to run around 220. (That's the middle of the stock gauges on there, and what many people on thirgen.org have said about these cars.) I think that's too hot, but it's apparently normal.
I have a digital cluster on the car with it's own sensor. I don't know if the digital cluster reading is correct or not either. I also have a setup where I can plug my laptop into the computer and it reads values the car's computer thinks it is (rpms/mpg/tps/ temps etc, everything basically it's for tuning)
The temps the car's computer reads is about 18 degrees COOLER than the temps the instrument cluster reads. However, my friend and I once used a harbor freight heat gun on the thermostat housing and the temps were close to what the instrument cluster gauge was saying.
Okay you ready for what my gauge gets up to when I have the AC on, it's a hot day (only when it's warmer does it get hot like this), and the car has been drivign around a bit?
I've seen it hit 250 degrees, but it likes to go up to 240-245 range if I'm doing city driving when it's warm out from stoplight to stoplight.
When it's cooler out (say 70s or less), it only gets up to about 213. Even if I turn the AC on, it will only get to around 220-230 (apparently still safe range but way hotter than I like) if the ambient temps are under 75.
I don't hear the car boiling over, but I guarantee running around 230-250 is no good for the car. If I'm on the highway, it doesn't get above 220, even with the AC on if it's hot out. It just seems weird to me with now two fans and a newer radiator that the fan airflow isn't good enough..
In the old days cars ran cooler.
Now they tend to run much hotter.
I am fine seeing water temps of 220....but if its hitting 250 that seems too hot.
My new honda vfr street bike runs 210 to 225 all the time...i asked and its designed to....if its not boiling over i just drive.
So i just ride it and don't worry.
Oil temps in most engines climb slower than the water temps do....but then tend to keep climbing and surpass the water temperatures.
In some ways its good for oil to get hot as it helps get rid of condensation etc.
But if it gets so hot it starts making the oil break down that is very bad.
So I am curious if you know what sort of maximum oil temps you are getting to.
I am happy if they stay under 240....okay with 240 to 250.....worry if past that.....i also worry if my oil doesn't climb to 220 so I am hard to please lol
I should add that the Mobil synthetic I use can take well over the oil temps I see in my bikes and cars.
My boat actually runs too cold and it concerns me some....I try to ignore the cold oil temps and just drive it and enjoy.
But ya I wish the oil would get a lot hotter than it does.
Hmm well it's good I use mobil 1 synthetic than. I don't have a way currently of measuring the oil temps either. I was thinking of adding an oil cooler just to make sure the oil doesn't get too hot, but I don't know.
I think my first thing will be to throw that more powerful dual fan setup on the camaro and see how that takes care of the idling/slow traffic temps!
