So right now i have a 03 f150 2wd open diff. I am moving up to wyoming soon and I am wondering if it would be worth it to get maybe a limited slip diff or a torsen diff rather than having an open diff. Ive heard that these upgrades help tremendously on snow and ice. Right now i have about 850lbs of sand bags at my disposal. Recently we had a snow where I live and the sand helped but there was still slippage on the drive wheels when trying to accelerate lightly, especially on hills. Let me know if you guys think it is worth the money for this upgrade. Thanks!
I have a 4x4 that I use to launch a boat in the mud (where I go does not have a launch ramp) as well as some off-roading & occasional snow trips. My truck had the factory posi until the carrier exploded. I had it replaced with an Eaton posi & the difference was unbelievable.
Going from an open diff to a high quality posi would be worth every penny.
it would be worth it. but if your moving up there id look in to getting a 4wd truck i been around wyoming and south dakota alot its nothing for them to get 12 to 18 inches of snow in a day 2wd truck aint gonna go in that. obviously depends what you do with a truck but i me personally i wouldnt live up there and have a 2wd. i live in northern missouri now and i still wont buy a 2wd for a daily driver.

I am going to college up there so I have no choice in wether or not I move there. I can't afford a 4x4 right now so 2wd is at least going to have to get me through a year or two. Also my father has a 2015 fx4 lariat and he said once he gets it paid off within the next 5-6 years, he will pass it down to me. I am not going to have a car payment while in college as I need to spend money wisely and not come out with student loan debt. Hopefully i can make a 2wd last 5 years in the snow. I don't think i'm going to be driving that much anyway or going off roading. I might consider getting a locker for the diff to help out in the snow and ice
If your going to school, forget it and save your money... When it snows several inches, stay home or walk to school..........Not like you HAVE to go somewhere.

I agree, but what about for highway travel. Such as coming home for the christmas holidays? I know there are some pretty good hills the way that I would have to travel to get home. Do you think a diff upgrade to limited slip would be better than an open diff or should an open diff get me up those hills
