Can Google maps be displayed on Navigation screen ?
I've got a 2016 Expedition Limited with Sync 3 and according to the info I've read, with the iPhone 6, I can use Apple Maps for navigation and display it on the 8" screen, but there is no mention of Google Maps unless using an Android phone.
Anyone know if it's possible to use Google Maps on the 8" display with an iPhone ?
Messed with it for at least an hour yesterday and I can't get any mobile aps to show on the screen. I can get the phone and music to work, but can't get any aps like Apple Maps or Google Maps to work. Followed all the trouble shooting instructions like using a USB port and checking aps for Sync permissions, no go. Any input from someone who was successful getting mobile aps to upload from an iPhone would be appreciated.
i don't have a '16 nor sync 3 but from reading about carplay i am under the impression you will not be able to get google maps to work but you ought to be able to use apple maps.

That is the same assumption I'm making, but unfortunately I'm not yet able to get Apple Maps or any other mobile apps to work with Sync 3. Planning to go to the dealer and see if one of their guys can show me how it's done.
I believe the plan is to do a retro-upgrade for 2016 Sync 3 systems when the 2017 Expy/Navi is released to the public. The 2017 will already come with Android Auto and Apple Car Play functionality. It is also unclear whether there will be a cost for the retro upgrade, but my guess is that it will be free to owners with Sync 3.
It is unclear how the integrated will display on the screen (whether as a map or simply as navigation prompts).

I'm expecting a MY16 Expedition with Sync3 coming soon.
Does anyone know if Ford has made this upgrade to MY17 Sync3 software and features available?
I'm pretty sure that you need to hard-connect your iphone through the USB to load your mobile apps. That's how it found the Stitcher app on my android. I had another app on there but removed it when it overlaid the Sync-3 apps. It also looks like to get the updates, it needs to be connected to your wifi.
I'm still learning how the whole thing works so don't take anything I say about this to the bank but it's what I've found so far.
