Trackers

Whatever those little varmints are, my browser tattles on them. Whatever forum or website I visiting there is a little number in a purple circle lower right on the screen and it shows how many trackers are being blocked. Most sites have 2-5 but FTE wins with a whopping 15.

Are you saying companies or marketers are tracking what we are doing online? Is this purple number thing something you subscribe to to track who's tracking who?" I don't have a purple number that I know of.

You may want to check your browser itself. There are some pop ups on this site but not anything that would stop navigation, etc. It sounds like you have accidentally installed some malware at some point in time. Download and run this, it's free:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/ just to make sure.

I've noticed that pages on this site take forever to load. When I'm signed in its not as bad but still there is a significant loading lag which makes scrolling through older posts to get to the current post on a thread a pain. I figured that it was just my service provider's cheap router but then I'm no computer wiz. I do know that I don't have any of the same issues over on the Ford Barn whether I'm signed in or not. But then the info I get for free is worth the delays. JMO

I'm not sure, it's something new since a recent computer tune up. My geek installed a new browser called duck duck go. It used to be ixquick. Neither of those allow sites you are logged into to see any info about you and I assume that's what trackers are. Also they warn you if you are trying to log on or open a page of a place that has a bad reputation. He keeps my ship pretty tidy with add blockers, fire walls, antivirus and other stuff I don't even remember.
If I really want to be anonymous, I can run cyber ghost and that routes everything I do around through an IP in a different country. It really makes paypal freak out.

You lost me at the word 'browser.' I think we had a dog named that back in '58.

Your browser is what your opening page is that you run on. and in most case also your search engine. Most people just use the Internet Explorer or MSN fr a browser and something like google for a search engine.

Duck Duck Go (stupid name) isn't a browser but is a search engine like google that doesn't track you stats for more intrusive ads, auto play videos and things that are generally annoying about using Internet Explorer. Personally, I use Firefox with lots of add ons to stop that kind of thing. We could spend all night talking about that but let's not.

Yeah, my bad, duck duck is my search, not browser. I've been on firefox and thunderbird for years. It's mostly gobldey gook to me but I try to learn a little when I can since this computer is MY tool and I want to know how to run it. The last time I picked my computer up I was actually nodding off while the geek explained everything he had done. So I'm not sure if the tracker blocker is a separate thing or what. It just showed 26 blocked when O logged on here.Whatever trackers are FTE leads the charge in how many they use, by a lot.

I struggle to do anything on here. There is so much advertising flash going on this website my computer can't keep up. Like now when typing this, half of what I type doesn't show up and I get a mess that I have to go back and correct. My computer is clean with no malware or viruses crawling around either. Very aggravating!

If you are running Internet Explorer, ditch it! Download Firefox and then go to Tools-Add ons and get FlashStopper and Adblock Plus and install them to the browser. There is a Search bar in the top right. Chrome does have the same add ons but they don't seem to work as well there as on FF. Also there is one called View in IE for those sites that don't want to reconfigure for FF. I just ran IE for the fun and yeah, how DOES anyone get anywhere on this site?

Nothing like that ever happens to me. I signed up for the subscription... only something like 25 bucks for the year ( a cheeseburger, fries and two beers on Orcas Island) and no pop ups or ads or gobbldeygook to wade through.
