Looked at the rear end in my '46 1/2-ton yesterday and found that it had been replaced once upon a time with a Dana 53 from an early Lincoln Continental. What are the odds of that? At first glance I had assumed it was a model 44 and that I would be able to freshen it up and run it....not going to happen. Several parts for these Ford type model 53's are unobtainium or are very difficult/expensive to obtain, so my search begins for a replacement. The good news is many guys are looking for parts for the Dana 53 and I should be able to make someone happy with parts, or the whole unit. At this point, I see a 9" rear end in my truck's future for strength and more appropriate gearing for running down the highway. The saga continues....

Sounds like a good saga to me.... You don't wanna be drivin' no HOT ROD LINCOLN anyhow
Yes, providing the 9" has 1" bore wheel cylinders. The 9" rears were available with a few different size wheel cylinders for use in different vehicles, with 1" being one of them.
