Engine serial numbers
Anyone have the breakdown of what numbers are what years??

94.5-95 engine serial no. 201680 & before)
96 and up engine serial no. 201681 & up

Start of production thru 1425746 are Forged Rods
1425747 thru 1440712 are Powdered Rods
1440713 thru 1498318 are Forged Rods
1498319 thru final production run are all powdered

Is that also the break for the front cover change? I've got a couple motors sitting here that I don't know the history.
Also one is a Ford reman and they punched over the serial number with 0's....I am assuming the 178974 is the number???

Yes and yes.
My first post is the obs serial #'s and my second post is the start of the sd engine e99-03 7.3L

And to be honest the only true way to tell if the sd engines are forged or pmr is to pull the inspection plate on the side of the block.

I know both mine are OBS motors, was just wondering if they were pre 95's or not as both are missing the tag on the HPOP res.

I have to show my ignorance here. What's the difference in forged and powdered rods?

Forged is one continuous piece of metal.
Pmr =Power Metal Rod is basically a bunch metal shavings pressed together kinda like MDF or OSB strand board
