Yes I know this is a popular subject, but I'm done beating around the bush so to speak. So I have a 98 f250 (light duty 4x4) with a gooseneck hitch as well as the hidden hitch, I use it for work and its also a daily driver. Now I have found tow mirrors that work for the 98-02 expedition and the 2000-2003 super crew. What is the difference in the mounting/placement in those doors and the regular f150 doors and can the be modified to fit if need be. I hate the clipons at it would be nice to see my blind spots exen when I'm not towing (you know how lots of drivers are these days) so any info would be great!! Thank you!
Also I do not want the Chevy styled mirrors you can get but these ones im talking about are modeled after the 04 f150

Reason: added info
the expedition mirrors are direct bolt on for super crew trucks but not for regular cabs and extended cabs. the holes are in different spots on the crew cabs. you can buy a chevy style bolt on tow mirror on ebay that is what i have on my truck i have had them almost a year now and i love them. and they arent stupid expensive either. they bolt right up and they are plug and play the plug right in to the factory plugs so no wire cutting. but you can buy the expedition mirrors and drill holes. the holes arent off by much i know several guys have done it and they look good and work good
Damn, how far out are the holes? I've seen a couple guys throw on super duty mirrors but the outside molding is all wrong and they have to drill 2 new holes. I'm okay with the drilling but plastic work to make it match is out of my skill (unless I go get a plastic guy to modify it which costs $$)
Thanks for the input by the way
you have to drill your doors. its not much at all i have some pics some where of what a buddy did to his i can upload the pic it'll take me a min. you dont have to do anything with plastic on the mirrors the mirrors have studs screwed in to them and you have to drill new holes in the doors to get them to bolt in. from the outside with them on you'll never know they were drilled. his dont shake or vibrate at all. my chevy style mirrors shook a little bit when i first put them on i put 4 washers on each stud and it took it all out. and you want the 01 expedition tow mirrors the mount flush on the f150 doors. the newer year mirrors have a lip at the bottom of them and wont sit flush. i know somewhere online you can get the 01 style for like 250 bucks
Yeah to be honest as much as the Chevy mirrors work and look decent... its on a ford (I know I'm picky) I would rather have some ungodly style than Chevy style mirrors. And sure if you can it would be great!! And I know I might be asking too much but where roughly would I have to make the drills? I know I could figure it out for myself but a rough estimate would be nice food for thought
and by 01 style i mean make sure the plastic part the sits against the door is the same as the factory mirrors. the newer expedition mirrors like 06 or 07 and up have a lip at the bottom of them to go over the body line on the door and they wont sit flush on a 97 to 03 truck.
Wow those look sharp, tell you buddy that they look great from me. Thank you soo much!! I'll post pictures once its done. As much as the 99 super duty mirrors accent the 97-03 f150-250 great, I'd rather go with those due to much more simplicity. You've helped a lot, I know people aren't given much credit on here but you have saved me a headache and a half hahahs. You have a good night
no problem i know lots of guys have questions and concerns on tow mirrors its a big over talked topic on our trucks and most guys are tired of hearing about it but im happy to help. im eventually gonna put them on my truck but i have other problems i gotta get figured out on it first.
