My Wifes Excursion's drivers window suddenly quit in the up position. I replaced window motor, no change.(note motor had been slow for awhile) so then I went to digging. both positions of the switch wont work auto or manual. So I used power probe to power motor to manually work the motor. Motor worked fine and faster now. I rolled the window down with the power probe again then plugged the connector back up and tried the switch. the window went up about 1" and quit, when it quit I heard a click behind the fuse box under the steering wheel, noticed that now none of the windows will do anything and lighting behind window buttons went out. waited maybe 15 seconds. heard another click then the lights came back tried all other windows except driver, all worked until I try the driver. went to the fuse box under the hood maybe the circuit breaker is bad. Removed it installed 30 amp maxi fuse. tried every thing again. no change. so I back probed the connector at the window motor with my multimeter. tried up the meter shows the voltage for just a second then goes back to nothing. tried down the meter blibs like it saw voltage for just a second but not long enough to actually show it. unplugged connector at motor and put leads directly to connector so there would be no load. same results. hooked up my snap-on scan tool and went into GEM. it shows the switchs working properly but never shows any amperage in the data display. also lastly I tried all three other windows up at the same time and it tripped that clicking sound again, waited a minute the they all went up fine individually. im thinking something in GEM but now I fine that the GEM is obsolete at ford place. (I'm getting bout tired of hearing that from them) Thanks for appreciating the stuff that sells the crap you make now.
The problem with the GEMs is the company that made them went belly up and no other company has stepped up to make them. I know the GEM for my 2001 ford was selling remanufactured units.
I was also having an intermittent problem. It was the clips on the window motor. It's a two part clip, and the wiring harness clips to another clip and when I wiggled it the window started working. Unfortunately I the banging on the door panel didn't work anymore and this time I cracked my panel. Lol
I forgot to mention that to correct the bad connection issue I took a small tool an squeezes the clips to make a better connection. Plugged everything back in and it works fine now.
Also note that in order to access this clip you have to remove the door panel and the speaker as it sits right behind the speaker....
I'm new to the forum platform so I appoligise for my repeated entries to update info. I just realized that I didn't mention which vehicle I have. It is the 2000 F350 7.3 diesel. Thanks.... And I get alot of good advise on this site in diagnostics with my truck.... Window drive motor clip that the wire harness piggy backs onto!
