My truck is a 56 with a 1970 429. I just replaced the radiator and the hose connects in the center of it. I was looking for new radiator hoses and did not want to use flex hoses like it had before. It was not so simple.
I went to the auto parts store and they let me look at all the hoses they had in stock but I couldn't find exactly what I wanted.
I found the attached Gates catalog where I could look up the hoses by hose ID and length. I thought it may help someone else that is having trouble finding the correct hoses so I posted it here.
I went through something similar a while back. I have a 429 in my 51 F-1. I had a metal universal radiator hose on the bottom inlet but it kept leaking because of the tight angle it had to make and the vibrations. so I did the same and found the gates catalog after a lot of computer time. definitely a good resource. mine had a sad ending though. the bend I was looking for was tighter than what I found. so it was bent a little more than it could handle I guess. at highway speeds, higher rpm, it started overheating. I think the higher suction from the water pump at RPM was cavitating the line. It was the only thing I changed at the time so I'm pretty confident that's what caused it. great source as you said though. just something to look for after install.
Another helpful link is this Dayco website. you can use the dimensional lookup tool and enter the ID of each end and the overall length and see pictures and details of anything close to that. Online Catalog
So the lower hose fit great until I put the power steering pump on. The hose is in the way of the fan belt.
So I tried this one Gates 21403:
The area that clears the belt is too long so I tried this one Gates 20615:
This one is too short. I really don't want to put another flex hose on so I will continue the search...
You can always get some steel or stainless tubing to slide in the rubber hose in the straight sections. You can adjust a hose to your liking a bit better that way making it longer or shorter in spots.
