Since I bought my 06 in 2013, I used Mobil 1 5-40 because I stocked up on that auto zone special. When I ran out, I switched to rotella t-6. I loved mobile 1. I love rotella a little less because my oil temp is 1-2 degrees higher with it. But mobile 1 is just too pricey for me right now. I'm thinking of trying Delo 5-40 syn. It's a few bucks cheaper per gallon. I know what I like and I know they all meet our diesel oil specs.
My question is, does anyone have any negative experience with Delo 5-40 synthetic? If you've had a positive experience, id like to hear that too. That's all I'm asking. No oil wars please. I've read most of those threads. I love mobile1 but it's $9/gallon more than Delo in my area.
I think Delo is great oil. Every company I've worked for has used it in all thier fleet vehicles. Actually this forum is the only place I've heard of diesels running anything but Delo.

Delo has a great reputation, especially with fleet trucks. It seems like the majority of 6 liter Powerstroke owners favor Rotella T6. A couple of friends of mine who drive the F350 7.3liter Powerstroke prefer Rotella T6. For now I'm running Mopar 15w-40 until my free oil changes run out at the Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Dealership. I believe the Mopar oil is made by Rotella anyway, so I can't complain.
I ran it, and my injectors got noisier quicker than they did with Mobil 1. My buddy ran it in his 6.0 and it ran like absolute garbage, to the point where we changed it out. It was strange. My trucks also hate rotella, i wont run it again after losing injectors on it
I've been wondering about that Delo 5/40 Syn. Good to see someone bring it up. Really, really wish I would have bought more of that Mobil 1 when we got in on that awesome sale at AZ. I had no idea my truck would like it so much... Too late now, I suppose.
I've used Mobile 1 5w-40, Rotella 5w-40, and Delo 5w-40.. I've also used Rotella 10w-30 and Delo 10w-30 (but prefer full synthetic.. seems to run smoother). I don't have any recent oil samples to provide but I am at 206,000 on the original injectors and turbo. Which ever one is less expensive and in stock I buy. In my opinion they are all very good oils.
I've been running the delo 5-40 since it came out. I havent had any issues with it. I always run 5k intervals, I tried 7.5k twice and had fuel dilution in my samples(on the 06)...which was no fault of the oil. Just a phamton injector I couldnt track down. I finally found it though, after 25k. Its a good oil I use it in everything now, tractors, skid steers etc. I like the 5w for the cold Montana winters.
I run Rotella 5W-40. Would run try Delo 5W-40 but my local Walmart only stocks it in the 4qt containers. No 1qt or 10qt. They have Rotella in all sizes.

I just rolled over 206K on mine this morning.
But to stay on topic, there's something about Mobil 1 that separates it from the rest. I've noticed that when I pour in Mobil 1 5w40, there is nothing left in the bottle. I.e. it doesn't have a drop left it in. Every other oil, I've had to tip the bottle up and let it drain some. Either way, mine will get Delo 5w40 when the time comes again, was short on cash last time and used 15w40.
Thanks for all the feedback everybody. I really do like Mobile 1. @Toreador, I noticed how much better it pours too. It's just not always in my budget. T-6 has served me well (no oil related issues to date with almost 136k miles). I was just wondering what Delo might be like (besides cheaper). My oil change is due very soon. Decision time is near :-).
