FYI, Mobil 1 has a rebate going on till the end of May for $12 for 5 quarts or more. Helps a bit at least. Can do 2 purchases per household.
I use T6 and have been wanting to try the Mobil 1 based on what everybody says here, but it's so much more expensive. My truck loves T6. With this rebate, I'm gonna try the Mobil 1 on my next OC.
My pans are spotless. Also I have a Fumoto valve to draw the sample next time half way through the drain. The iron reading I believe is accurate. The fuel was the only issue like I explained. Thanks for the pointers though.
Sounds good, the fumoto valves sure make sampling much cleaner & easier
FWIW, it is common to see a temporary increase in wear metals when changing oil brands. Caterpillar did a paper on it a while back.....so just don't be alarmed if you see a slight bump in wear metals.
Some of these samples look to be prior to the oil specification changed to CJ-4 that we now have. The Fed's limited the zinc to 1250 ppm and many of the oils have had to adjust the various additives to compensate.
Oh boy - running through Bob Is the Oil Guy site I see that we are now getting a new oil specification come December 2016, what are we in for next?
"WASHINGTON, March 2, 2016 – The American Petroleum Institute (API) announced that it has approved two new diesel engine oil standards, API Service Categories CK-4 and FA-4. These new categories resulted from years of collaborative effort between API’s Lubricants Group, the Truck & Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC) click here for the full announcement."

What concerns me is that we are 8 months out and there is no specifics available. All that I can find is that the new spec will have better oxidation, improved sheer stability and better wear properties. That's all great for the 6.0L (especially the sheering aspect IMO) but I'm curious if there will be any cut backs on the allowable zinc levels or anything else like last time? I guess we just wait and see. But just like in 2007 when we changed to CJ-4, I'll stock up on some of my favorites for a good 3-4 oil changes so my stuff won't be one of the guinea pigs/test monkeys.
I put the Delo Synthetic in last night along with the oil and fuel filter's. I haven't driven it yet but at idle, it sounds about the same. I'll put some miles on it this weekend and see if I can tell any difference in sound/performance.
I have used T6 and delo. They are both fine. My experience is the T6 has better cold starting below about 35 degrees outside. Other than that, I would run either one.
This is my only complaint about the Delo. Cold starting is a bit cranky, but otherwise I can't tell the difference. I usually have the truck plugged in and it starts perfectly when warm, but since the plug finally gave up it sucks.
I'm running Delo synthetic. I used to run Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel. I don't see nor hear any difference but I'm in Texas, not the cold barren north. I'm sure Mobil 1 is a good product but I can't see paying an extra $6 to $8 per gallon for it. I bought 2 gallons of Delo yesterday marked down to just under $18 at Walmart. Only problem I have is that Walmart never has 4 gallons in stock. So I make sure to grab some when I see it so I'm not scrounging around come oil change time.

I ALWAYS have used Rotella. I just made a purchase with Walmart online for the Delo 5w40 for $17.96 per gallon, free shipping to my home. When I normally pay $21.36 per gallon of Rotella T6, I decided to use Delo as I have heard great things about it.
I think I saw one DieselDan's (Scott) review on their website too, LOL
