I know this has been discussed numerous times on here but I cannot find the thread.... I have a 55 f100 and I am going to relocate the gas tank and put it under the bed.... If I'm not mistaken several on here were using the 60's mustang tank is this correct ????
I can understand wanting to remove the gas tank from inside the cab, for whatever reason. But perhaps you can explain to me the necessity of moving the tank from under the bed to further back under the bed on the 53-55's? It seems to me to be a lot of work for no gain, and the stock position in those models is ideal.
That said, yes, many folks use the early Mustang tank. My issue with that is to make it fit, you need to move the rear crossmember, which detaches it from the engineered position of tying the rear spring hangers together. There's a lot of stress there, and imho you lose a lot of chassis and suspension strength by doing so.
The reasoning for moving my tank from under the cab to the rear was because it kept scraping and busting the seams from going over speed bumps. Mine is a '69 Mustang from Mustang Unlimited Tanks, but do your research from other companies. Also, I don't know if you have a carb or fuel injected, but you need to account for that along with the different ohms from your gauge and sending unit. You can find a lot of sizes and gallons, just find one that fits your build so you won't have to re-do it later. L8R ZFLASH
