Hi I'm looking at buying a Dana 44 HD with disc brake and is the high pinion axle. It need the inner and outer shaft on the driver's side and I have a Dana 44 low pinion with drums in the front and I was wondering if I could just swap the axles from mine into this one
First off I don't believe the high pinion 44's were referred to as 44HD's. The 44HD's were the low pinion axles that came in highboy's with the large external locking hubs.
And no, I don't think you can swap axle shafts between an open knuckle & closed knuckle Dana 44.
Thanks do to the brackets for the leafs line up still? I have a f250 highboy with the old low pinion d44 in it so I'm hoping they do to the newer 77 high pinion d44
I don't think they were called a 44HD though were they? They're just your standard high pinion Dana 44 just like the 78/9's. 77.5's were not "highboy's".

Yes, the spring perches should be the same distance apart on the high pinion 44 if it came out of a 77.5-79 F250.
I may be wrong but I've always heard of the late 70's F250 Dana 44 being refered to as the 44HD. Being that it has 8 lug hubs and bigger brakes and is suppose to have 3" tubes with 1/2" think walls.
I'd find a high pinion axle and swap the whole thing in. You would need the prop block, power brake booster and master but all in all it would be a great upgrade for the truck. Your drive shaft angle will be a lot better too.
